The NYPD is asking for the public’s help locating the person seen in the attached photo who department officials say is sought in connection with the theft of a vehicle in the Morris Heights section of The Bronx, and later an assault on two police officers in the Van Nest section.

Police said that on Wednesday, June 7, at around 7.45 p.m., in front of 1854 Cedar Avenue, a 46-year-old male victim was inside his vehicle, a black Audi Q5, when he was approached by two women. Police said that as they approached, the man exited his car. They said the two females then got into his vehicle without the man’s permission and fled the location. They said the victim did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident.

According to the NYPD, shortly afterwards, the two females drove the stolen vehicle in the vicinity of 435 Van Nest Avenue. Unrelated to the first incident, they said two officers performing patrol in the 49th Precinct attempted to conduct a car stop on the vehicle for an equipment violation.

Police said upon attempting to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to stop and intentionally drove into the police car before fleeing the location. They said the two officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.

Police said video surveillance determined the two females abandoned the vehicle in front of 4290 3rd Avenue, south of Belmont in the Crotona section at approximately 8.58 p.m. the same evening.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said one of the women was apprehended on Sunday, June 11, and was charged in respect of the incident. The second person sought has been identified as Aaliyah Mitchell, 19, of 30 Richman Plaza in the Morris Heights section of The Bronx.

She is described by police as female, Black Hispanic, has a medium complexion, brown eyes, black hair, and is around 5 feet, 3 inches in height.

As reported, a police chase in the Norwood section of The Bronx in early June resulted in an illegal U-turn which caused a multiple-vehicle crash on Webster Avenue.

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
