A man has been hospitalized with severe head trauma following a road accident in Woodlawn Heights.
On Sunday, July 3, at approximately 1.08 p.m., police responded to a road accident in the vicinity of East 233rd Street and Webster Avenue, located in the 47th Precinct.
Police officials said, “A preliminary investigation determined that a 51-year-old male operating a 2012 Honda Civic was travelling westbound on East 233 Street, approaching the intersection of Webster Avenue, when he suffered an unknown medical episode causing him to lose control of his vehicle.”
The officials added, “The vehicle crossed over the double solid yellow line, mounted the sidewalk, and collided into a stone retaining wall. The operator sustained severe head trauma as a result. EMS responded and transported the aided operator to Montefiore Medical Center in critical condition. There are no other vehicles involved. The collision is being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.”

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
