Woodlawn Heights: Housing Lottery Open for Senior Living Units at 69 East 233rd Street

An affordable housing lottery is open units at Woodlawn Senior Living, located at 69 East 233rd Street in the Woodlawn Heights section of The Bronx, as reported by YIMBY.

 

Developed by RiseBoro Community Partnership, and designed by Paul Castrucci Architects, YIMBY reports that the 80-unit, affordable, senior housing development is built with green infrastructure and water conservation, and also has on-site social services.

 

Available on NYC Housing Connect are 55 units for residents at 50 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $0 to $53,700.

 

Residents will have access to a shared laundry room, storage, elevator, outdoor spaces, and free parking via lottery system with electric vehicle charging stations.

At 50 percent of the AMI, there are 41 studios with a monthly rental payment of $0, for incomes ranging from $0 to $47,750 and 14 one-bedroom units with a monthly rental payment of $0, for incomes ranging from $0 to $53,700.

 

Prospective renters must consist of individuals or households in which at least one member of the household is 62 or more years of age at the time of application, and who meets the income and household size requirements.

 

The project is located in Bronx Community Board 12. Applicants will need to qualify for Section 8. Tenant pays 30 percent of their income towards rent and utilities, with laundry cards in operation. There is free parking via a lottery system, with available electric vehicle charging for applicable rates. There are no fees for other amenities.

 

Two percent of units are being set aside for those with vision and hearing constraints and 5 percent of units are being set aside for those with impaired mobility.

 

Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than Oct. 27, 2021.

The building is being constructed through the Senior Affordable Rental Apartments (SARA) program and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).
