Woodlawn Cemetery held an “Earth Day Celebration” on Saturday, April 24, 2021, following the official Earth Day on Thursday, April 22. The event took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and well over 200 people attended.
Both adults and children enjoyed trolley rides, tree carving, (small grey fox) tree planting workshops, tree identification walks, arts & crafts, yoga on the lawn, and a free hot dog lunch, complete with a bag of chips and bottled water.
Kids did not go empty-handed either and received a goodie bag filled with the Woodlawn Arboretum coloring book and crayons as well as an activity sheet.
Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org, involving 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
“With the weather cooperating, it was an awesome day and was free to the community!” said cemetery director, Barbara Selesky.
