The New York City Police Department has arrested a woman in Manhattan, for attempted murder for pushing another middle-aged woman onto the subway tracks at a Bronx subway station earlier this month.
The police had asked for the public’s assistance on Feb. 9, in ascertaining the whereabouts of the unidentified woman seen in the attached photos and video, who had been sought in connection with the incident, which took place in the 42nd Precinct / Transit District 12.
It was reported to police that on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at around 7.50 p.m., on the platform of the 174th Street subway station (2/5 lines) in the vicinity of Charlotte Gardens in the Bronx, the female suspect pushed the victim, a 54-year-old woman, onto the track roadbed.
The victim suffered cuts and bruising to her hands, and pain to her body. She extricated herself from the track roadbed with the assistance of a male Good Samaritan and was transported by EMS to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. The female suspect fled on foot, exiting the subway system, and continued northbound on Southern Boulevard.
Photos and video are attached, and show the female suspect at street level, in the vicinity of the incident location, shortly after the incident occurred. She is also seen inside a grocery/bodega located at 1718 Southern Boulevard shortly after the incident.
On Feb. 25, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the NYPD confirmed that Luz Sanchez, 29, of Lexington Ave in Manhattan had been arrested at midday the same day, in the 5th precinct, and was charged with attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, and attempted reckless endangerment.
No information was provided as to the suspect’s psychological state. Norwood News has reached out to the Manhattan’s DA’s office for further information, and this story will be updated upon receipt of any details.
