With Box Cutters, Two Men Rob a MetroPCS in Bedford Park

Two men entered a MetroPCS store in Bedford Park on Monday night, flashed a box cutter at an employee, and left with $500 in cash and an iPhone, police said on Wednesday.

The two suspects entered the store at 219 E. 198th St. store as a store employee was counting money from the cash register at around 7:45 p.m. A Hispanic man in his mid-20’s showed the knife and took $500 from the register. A black man in his mid-20’s, grabbed an iPhone SE from the counter.

The men quickly ran out the store. The employee was not injured.

Both suspects were spotted on surveillance video prior to the robbery. One of the thieves caught on video is described as black, standing at 5’4, wearing red sneakers and a black, hooded sweatshirt with the OVO Sound owl logo on the chest. OVO Sound, or “October’s Very Own,” is the music label founded by hip hop artist Drake.

The second suspect is described as 5’ 11″ tall, and seen wearing a grey Adidas sweater and black sneakers.

The incident is the fourth cellphone-related robbery in the last month the Norwood News has reported on.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
