In a weekend that saw rising temperatures, there was a noticeable uptick in gunfire across the borough that left at least nine victims wounded in a nine-hour period.

Police say an unidentified man in his 20s was shot in the upper back and a 17 year-old was shot in the shoulder at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the corner of East Burnside Avenue and Valentine Avenue in south Fordham. The day saw temperatures climb upwards to 78 degrees, below the normal seen this time of year.

Just an hour later, gunfire was reported at the Castle Hill Houses where police say following a dispute at a house party.

Officials reported a 15-year-old girl was hit in the back, while a 23 year-old man was shot in the leg and a 55-year-old man was hit in the ankle.

Police would later release a surveillance photo of the gunman, who is described as a black male, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers.

Fewer details were available, but police  report a 23 year-old male also suffered a gunshot wound to the back as he walked along East 164 Street in the Morris Heights section at 10:05 p.m.

Moments after midnight on Sunday, a 37-year-old man was shot in the chest outside a building on Lafayette Avenue in the Hunts Point section. Police say the gunman fired multiple shots at the victim after a dispute.

Police were called to another scene at just after 2 a.m., when police discovered a 25 year-old man shot two times in his left leg along East 225 Street.

At some time after 5 a.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in the chest on College Avenue.

The rise of shootings comes amid a time of high-tech security measures implemented by the NYPD. Those include body cameras on officers, ShotSpotter technology to quickly pinpoint gunfire and new cameras that takes photos of license plates.
