Wakefield: Two People Injured following Residential Fire, Five Households Assisted by Red Cross

Two people suffered minor injuries after a residential fire broke out in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, FDNY officials said.

 

Officials from the fire department said they received a call at 11.16 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, for a report of a fire in a two-story, private dwelling (20 x 40) located at 759 East 226 Street at White Plains Road and Barnes Avenue.

They said 12 units comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and the two civilians with the minor injuries were transported to area hospitals. They said their description and condition is unknown.

 

FDNY officials said the blaze was brouhght under control at 00.38 a.m. on Friday morning and the cause remains under investigation.

 

Norwood News asked the Red Cross of Greater New York if any families had been displaced following the fire. A  representative responded, saying they assisted residents of 764 East 226th Street. “After the fire on 226th Street, the American Red Cross registered five households (eight adults/six children) for emergency assistance, including emergency lodging and financial assistance,” the representative said. “If any residents did not connect with the Red Cross responders on site they should call 877-RedCross for assistance.”

A fire that broke out on June 1 at 2690  Morris Avenue in Fordham Manor resulted in one minor injury as reported.

 

As reported, a fire that broke out inside a popular University Heights deli and spread to an adjacent 99 Cents store on Sunday, June 23, took firefighters more than 90 minutes to extinguish, FDNY officials said. The fire caused a lot of damage to the two businesses, leaving a shell of the one-story structure remaining.
