Wakefield: Queens Man Arrested & Charged with Murder in 2020 Killing of Bronx Man

Police said they have arrested a 32-year-old man from Queens on murder charges in relation to the killing of a 44-year-old man from Wakefield in March 2020.

 

Police said that on Friday, March 20, at around 3.30 p.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding an assault in progress at 224th Street and White Plains Road. “Upon arrival, officers discovered a 44-year-old male with sustained trauma about the head, who was struck with a blunt object,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where the victim was pronounced deceased on Friday, April 10, 2020.”

 

The deceased was later identified as Jean Civilne, 44, of East 224th Street in Wakefield.

 

On May 12, 2020, detectives asked for the public’s help locating Jowayney Francis, then 29, who they said was sought for questioning in connection with the case. They said he was described as male, around 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and weighed 135 pounds.

 

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said on Friday, Sept. 22, that Francis, now 32, of Queens was arrested and charged on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 11.59 a.m. in The Bronx. They said he has been charged with murder, manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
