Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and RecruitMilitary will host the Washington, D.C./New York Areas Virtual Career Fair for Veterans on Thursday, June 25th from 11am to 3pm EST to facilitate employment efforts for both job seekers and employers. The free, online event is open to all members of the military community, past and present, as well as military spouses and dependents.

RecruitMilitary’s virtual events are technologically enhanced to provide personal interaction among job candidates and employers in large groups, small groups and one-to-one formats.

According to DAV and RecruitMilitary, national unemployment claims have surpassed historic measures and veteran unemployment stays in step with this trend with rates surging by 8% in just four weeks from 3.8% in March to 11.8% in April. The rate has since swung back to 9% in May and is holding steady.

DAV and RecruitMilitary said organizations are now hiring veterans with identified military-trained skill sets. They said industries such as distribution, supply chain, logistics, e-commerce, data storage/broadband, pharmaceuticals and select retail are just a few of the areas of business that are rapidly hiring and in large volumes.

RecruitMilitary has been employing and recruiting veterans for nearly three decades. In response to COVID-19, the organization promptly implemented virtual hiring events nationwide.

Today, the company said it is positioned to bring thousands of service members, veterans and military spouses into the civilian workforce like never before. In April, RecruitMilitary was appointed by the U.S. Army to provide transition services to soldiers, veterans and their families.

The timing of the appointment is critical to serve the needs of transitioning soldiers and their families who are leaving the military and joining the civilian world amidst a global crisis. RecruitMilitary serves veterans and transitioning service members of all military branches.

In 2019, DAV and RecruitMilitary hosted more than 140 veteran-hiring events across the United States with 6,400+ exhibitors engaging more than 28,000 military-trained job candidates.

Chris Newsome is senior vice president at RecruitMilitary. “At Bradley-Morris and RecruitMilitary, we care deeply about the military community we serve that includes job seekers, employers and our own team,” he said.

“Given the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control regarding COVID-19, to protect the safety of everyone involved, we shifted all upcoming in-person hiring events into our virtual veteran career fair platform. Virtual hiring events are not new to us. We’ve been offering these types of events, in addition to digitally interactive resources, for several years. We’re proud to continue serving those who need us during this time to secure employment and sustain workforce development.”
