The NYPD said two people have been arrested following the fatal shooting of a 41-year-old man, as well as the nonfatal shooting of a second man, who was hospitalized following the incident which took place in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Police officials said that at around 1.29 p.m. on the day in question, officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at the intersection of East 214th Street and Wilson Avenue.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 41-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the torso,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the male to NYC Health + Hospitals/ Jacobi, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
Police said a second victim from the incident, a 34-year-old man who was shot in his right arm, was later transported to Montefiore Medical Center via private means, where he is listed in stable condition.
Police said there were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing. They initially said the deceased had been identified as Jacob Pitts of West Hempstead, NY.
On Monday, the NYPD provided a further update saying the deceased had been identified as Craig Thomas, 41, of West Hempstead, NY.
On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the NYPD said Michael Spand, 24, of Lasalle Street in the vicinity of West Harlem had been arrested in connection with the murder investigation. He was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
A second individual was also arrested in connection with the incident. Johnson Gayle, 42, of Wilder Avenue in Wakefield was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of a law.
