UPDATE Williamsbridge: Man Critical after being Run Over by Vehicle on East Gun Hill Road

An unidentified man remains in serious condition after being struck and pinned under a vehicle on East Gun Hill Road, between Webster Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway on the border of Norwood and Williamsbridge.

 

The NYPD said police officers from the 52nd Precinct were called to the accident at 1:04 p.m. on Friday, July 5. A police spokesperson told Norwood News that the vehicle in question, “struck an unidentified male.” The spokesperson continued, “EMS responded and transported the aided to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.”

The spokesperson continued, “The operator (of the vehicle) remained on scene. No arrests at this time and the investigation is on-going.”

 

The FDNY said they received a call at 11.57 a.m. on Friday, July 5, for a report of a person under a car at East Gun Hill Road by Webster Avenue.

They said units responded to the scene and one patient was extricated by the fire department from under the car and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital. They said the person’s condition and description are unknown.

 

At the scene, an NYPD vehicle was seen stopped against traffic directly in front of a blue Honda CR-V. A baseball cap was observed behind one of the vehicle’s rear wheels.

A man who pulled up behind the Honda said that he was the boyfriend of the female driver involved in the crash. He told Norwood News, “It was bumper-to-bumper traffic and I think he was standing behind this pole, and he jumped in front of her vehicle.”

 

The unidentified man said that his girlfriend was “shaken up” by the accident. As two members of the NYPD’s Highway Patrol unit arrived on scene and got off their motorcycles, the boyfriend said of the victim, “I think he died. Highway (Patrol) doesn’t show up unless someone died.”

For collision investigations, the NYPD handles any criminal aspects of the incident while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
