UPDATE Williamsbridge: Female Suspect Arrested after Woman 37 is Fatally Slashed

A 37-YEAR-OLD woman died following a fatal stabbing in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx on Saturday, June 1, 2024. She has been identified as Ashley Smith, 37, of Mt. Vernon. Police are searching for Jalessa Richardson (pictured), 32, in connection with the incident.

Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman following the fatal stabbing of a second 37-year-old woman from Mt. Vernon in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx, a department spokesperson said on Wednesday. Police had been appealing to the public to help locate the woman seen in the attached photo, who they had identified as 32-year-old Jalessa Richardson, in connection with the incident.

 

As reported, police said that on Saturday, June 1, at around 6.08 a.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a woman who had been assaulted at 1418 Oakley Street.

 

“Upon arrival, police observed a 37-year-old female with a slash wound to her neck, unconscious and unresponsive,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where she was later pronounced deceased. There are no arrests at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.”

 

The deceased was later identified as Ashley Smith, 37, of East Lincoln Avenue in Mt. Vernon, NY

On June 11, police said that pursuant to an ongoing investigation, detectives had identified an individual sought in connection with the murder, who they identified as Richardson. They said she was last seen fleeing the scene on foot northbound on Oakley Street.

 

On Wednesday, June 12, police said that pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Richardson, of Walton Avenue in the Mt. Eden section of The Bronx, was arrested earlier that morning at 1.10 a.m. in the confines of the 47th Precinct which covers the north/northeast Bronx.

 

She has been charged with murder in the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon. She is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
