Police have released photos of an additional person sought “for questioning only” in relation to an ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of 24-year-old man and the hospitalization of a second 42-year-old man for gunshot wounds after a shooting in the Wakefield section of The Bronx in March.
As reported, they said that on Sunday, March 19, at around 11.48 p.m. officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at a deli located at 4702 White Plains Road.
An NYPD spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 24-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the torso. EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced deceased.” The spokesperson added, “A second victim from this incident, a 42-year-old male, with a gunshot wound to his right leg, was transported via private means to Montefiore Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.”
The deceased was later identified as Dayquon Simmons, 24, of Westchester County.
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, on Wednesday, July 5, police said two people were arrested in connection with the case. They announced that Leon Smith, 24, of Boston Road in the Charlotte Gardens section of The Bronx was arrested on Wednesday, April 19, at 2.45 p.m. in the 47th Precinct. They said he was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Additionally, they said Angel Pagan, 34, of St. James Place in Lower Manhattan was arrested on July 5 at 1 a.m. in the 47th Precinct. They said he was also charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
On Wednesday, July 19, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police released photos of an additional person sought in connection with the case (attached) and are asking for the public’s help identifying him, “for questioning only,” in connection with the incident.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
