UPDATE Van Cortlandt Village: Family Appeals for Help in Search for 52-Year-Old Missing Woman

As reported on March 22, the NYPD is asking for the public’s help locating Vanessa Morris, 52, who disappeared from the home she shares with her mother in Jerome Park, one week ago.

According to the attached flyer, the police, and a family member, Morris was last seen in her apartment, located at 80 Van Cortlandt Park South, at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, March 20.

The flyer describes Morris as an African American woman who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and weighs 160 pounds. A clothing description of what Morris was wearing the night she disappeared was not available but according to the flyer, she has red hair braids which she wears in a bun.

One family member, who declined to be identified, spoke to Norwood News on Sunday, March 27, hours after family and friends saturated Jerome Park posting flyers which included Morris’ picture. The family member said, “Mom woke up in the morning and Vanessa was gone from her room.” The family member added that after viewing the building’s surveillance video, the family believes Morris exited the apartment through a window and climbed down the building’s fire escape. The family member said she has not been in touch with any friends since then, and left her cellphone behind.

An NYPD missing person’s flyer seeking information on Vanessa Morris, 52, who disappeared from her home on Van Cortlandt Park South in Jerome Park on Monday, March 20, has been posted around the neighborhood in order to try to help find her.
