The NYPD released the names of the two people who were fatally shot in University Heights in late May during a multiple shooting incident.
As reported, police launched a double-murder investigation following the shooting which occurred on Friday, May 24, after a man and a woman were shot dead, and a third person was also injured from gunshot wounds.
Police said that at around 00.14 a.m. on the morning of the shooting, officers from the 52nd Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a report of a person who had been shot in front of 2290 Davidson Avenue by Evelyn Place.
“Upon arrival, police observed a 36-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest, a 40-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the right arm, and a 44-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the chest,” a police spokesperson said. “The three victims were transported by EMS to St. Barnabas Hospital.”
Police said the 36-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were pronounced deceased at the hospital, and the 40-year-old male is in stable condition. They said there were no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
Later on May 24, police said the deceased had been identified as Claretha Daniels, 44, of Grand Avenue in University Heights and Justin Lawless, 36, also of the same Grand Avenue address in University Heights.
