UPDATE University Heights: Two Arrested in Early Morning Shooting of Two Youths

Police said two people have been arrested in the case of the non-fatal shooting of two teenagers in University Heights in April. The NYPD had been asking for the public’s help identifying the people seen in the attached photo who, they said, were sought for questioning in connection to the incident.

 

Police said that on Friday, April 14, at around 2 a.m. in the vicinity of 1950 Andrews Avenue, three people fired several gunshots from a gray Hyundai Sonata, striking the two 18-year-old male victims.

 

“One victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back. The other victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right calf,” a police spokesperson said. The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, heading westbound on 179th Street, police said. “The victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition,” the spokesperson added.

 

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, on Tuesday, June 6, police said Jesus Delacruz, 27, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania was arrested that morning at 00.30 a.m. in the 46th Precinct.

 

They said he was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

 

Additionally, a 17-year-old, unidentified male, whose address was not disclosed, was also arrested on Tuesday, June 6, at 00.40 a.m. in the 46th Precinct. He was also charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
