UPDATE University Heights: No Injuries Reported after Residential Fire

No injuries were reported following a fire in University Heights on Friday evening, the FDNY said.

 

Fire department officals said they received a call for reports of a fire / smoke at 54 Evelyn Place located between Grand Avenue and Aqueduct Aveue on Friday evening, May 3, at 6.59 p.m.

They said the fire broke out on the 2nd floor of a 5-story, multiple dwelling and 12 units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene.

 

They said the fire was brought under control at 7.23 p.m., there were no injuries, and the cause is unknown at this time and is under investigation.

Norwood News reached out to the Red Cross to check if there were any residents displaced as a result of the fire. Desireee Ramos Reiner, external affairs officer, later provided us with the following statement, “After the fire on Evelyn Place in The Bronx, the American Red Cross provided emergency assistance to one household (one adult/one pet). Responders also distributed cleaning supplies.”
