There were no injuries reported after a residential fire broke out in NYCHA’s Parkside Housing Project, located south of the Olinville section of The Bronx on Thursday, Jan. 16, amid snowy conditions, according to the FDNY.
A department spokesperson said the FDNY received a call for a report of a fire at 8.27 p.m. on Jan. 16 at 669 Arnow Avenue, Parkside Housing Project, in an occupied multiple dwelling located between Olinville Avenue and Barker Avenue.
The spokesperson said the fire was located on the 7th floor of the building, and that 12 units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. The spokesperson added that the fire was brought under control at 8.59 p.m. and that the cause is under investigation by FDNY fire marshals.
Norwood News reached out to the Red Cross for details of any displaced residents. A representative later said, “After the fire on Arnow Avenue in the Bronx, the American Red Cross has registered one household, including four adults and one child, for emergency assistance such as financial assistance and temporary lodging.”
The representative addd, “Any residents impacted by this fire who need help with their recovery and have not already connected with the Red Cross should call 1-877-RED CROSS (877-733-2767) and select Option 1.”
According to NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) records, there is one open violation for the address as of Feb. 22, 2024, for failure to file a FISP cycle technical report (relating to the facade of the building) by 2/21/2024.
Two other large, residential fires have broken out in the north Bronx in recent days, one Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 3030 Heath Avenue in Kingsbridge, as reported, with two minor injuries and dozens displaced, and another at 2910 Wallace Avenue in Allerton Friday, Jan. 10, which resulted in eight injuries (six firefighters and two civilians) and hundreds of displaced residents.
