As reported, due to required track maintenance, there has been ad hoc suspended weekend service at certain Bronx subway stations serving the 4 train and D train in recent months.
When Norwood News witnessed repairs being made to the elevated tracks serving the 4 train along Jerome Avenue between Mosholu Parkway subway station and Woodlawn station on Saturday, May 11, we asked the MTA if these repairs were part of the ongoing track maintenance which has been causing the ad hoc suspension of the weekend service on the 4 line over the last few months.
We also asked if this was the case, if the required repairs are now completed across all Bronx stations serving the 4 train. The MTA responded, saying, “Track maintenance did happen in that area. There are currently no plans for additional maintenance work.” We replied asking if they mean in that area only or across all Bronx stations [serving the 4 train].
We were advised that it was just for that area. We also asked the MTA if the overall track maintenance affecting the 4 train weekend service is completed now across all stations. We were referred to the following site: https://new.mta.info/alerts.
As reported, Bronx subway riders had been left feeling frustrated at times in recent months when on at least one occasion they were left temporarily stranded with no north-south subway service after a human leg was found on the elevated train tracks at the 167th Street subway station on Feb. 17, delaying the 4 train service, due to there being no alternate north-south service available that weekend due to the simultaneous D service weekend suspension.
We will continue to monitor the situation.
