The NYPD made a further appeal to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 1, for any information that might be helpful with the investigation into the homicide that occurred, as reported, in Norwood on Friday, July 28, at 5.25 p.m., in which 21-year-old Carlos Borbon was fatally stabbed.
As previously reported, police initially said that police responded to a 911 call of an “assault in progress inside of 365 East 204 Street,” and that upon arrival “officers observed a 21-year-old male with multiple stab wounds about the body.”
However, on Aug. 1, police said Borbon had been inside French Charley’s Park that day when he got into a verbal dispute with another person. “As the dispute escalated, the individual displayed a knife and stabbed the victim approximately eleven times,” police said. According to police, the assailant then fled the location on foot in an unknown direction.
Police said, “EMS responded and transported the aided male victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. As reported, a local resident had previously told Norwood News that he had heard the stabbing had possibly taken place at a nearby park.
Later, as reported, an employee at Gilbert Barber shop, located at East 204th Street and Decatur Avenue, told Norwood News they saw the injured victim on the day of the stabbing passing by the barber shop, located opposite the victim’s home.
Recalling how the owner had offered assistance to the young man, the employee said he had said to the victim, “‘What happened to you? Are you okay?'” The employee added, “He didn’t say anything and just kept walking and he entered the building and that’s it.”
Asked if he had come from the park, the employee said, “We don’t know. He just walked in front of the barber shop. He had blood all over. All over his body he had blood.” Asked if he had known Borbon, the employee said, “Yeah, we know [him] from the neighborhood. I cut his brother’s hair.”
Asked if he was surprised by what had happened, the employee said, “Of course, bro. We don’t understand what happened. He came from nowhere and [was] just walking and [with] blood on his body, the clothes, and the head. Leo said he had blood over here on the arms.”
Asked what the young man was like, the employee said, “I don’t know that because I only know him from the neighborhood. I didn’t speak with him. Never spoke with him; with his brother, yes because he cuts his hair over here, but I didn’t know the other one. But they just seem to be like… I mean they looked the same. They’re brothers but I thought they were twins. They looked the same.”
When Norwood News asked the NYPD on Aug. 1 for clarification around whether emergency services had been called to the park or to the victim’s home at 365 East 204th Street on July 28, an NYPD spokesperson said, “I have the 911 call coming from the park.” We’ve also reached out to EMS for clarification and await an update.
Police added that no video or photos are available of the actual stabbing (at this time).
