Police said a 19-year-old male youth has been arrested on murder charges following the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old man in Norwood on Thursday.
The victim was murdered on Thursday afternoon, July 21, amid a thunderstorm and downpour. A witness said police attempted to save the man following the stabbing to the chest but he was later pronounced deceased.
The NYPD later said officers responded to a 911 call at around 1.15 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, regarding an aided man at East 205th Street and Decatur Avenue in Norwood, located in the 52nd Precinct.
As reported, The Bronx, Manhattan and Southeastern Bergen and Westchester counties were experiencing a thunderstorm and heavy rain at the time.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35-year-old male with a stab wound to the chest,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”
The deceased has been identified as Nathaniel Rivers, 35, of Decatur Avenue in the Bronx.
At around 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, police confirmed that Franklin Mesa, 19, of Decatur Avenue in Norwood was arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
