The New York City Police Department is appealing to the public for help identifying the person seen in the attached video and photos who police say is sought for questioning in connection with an assault inside a Mt. Hope subway station, where a straphanger was pushed onto the subway tracks.
Police said that on Tuesday, June 6, at around 6.10 a.m., the victim, a 42-year-old man, was on the southbound platform at the 174th-175th Street subway station serving the B/D lines when a man approached him from behind and pushed him onto the train tracks.
A police spokesperson said, “The victim was helped back up to the platform by a good Samaritan before a train arrived at the station. The victim was then transported by EMS to Lincoln Hospital for evaluation. The individual fled on foot to parts unknown.”
We asked the NYPD if they could provide any statistics on the number of straphangers pushed onto subway tracks year-to-date, in 2022, and what percentage of those pushed were killed or seriously injured.
They said as of May 21, three people had been pushed onto the tracks versus nine people in 2022.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at https://crimestoppers.
