UPDATE Morris Heights: Man Arrested & Charged in Murder Investigation into Fatal Shooting of 2nd Man, 44

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man following the fatal shooting of a 44-year-old man in Morris Heights in September 2023.

 

Police officials said that on Saturday, Sept. 2, at around 10.57 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at West 175th Street and Macombs Road. “Upon arrival, police observed a 44-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his right leg,” they said. “EMS transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital and was pronounced deceased. ”

 

They said a person of interest was taken into custody at the scene and the investigation remains ongoing.

 

On Feb. 9, 2024, police said the deceased was identified as Thomas Washington, 44, of Walton Avenue in the Mt. Hope section of The Bronx.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police also said James Hardy, 42, of Park Avenue in the South Bronx was arrested on Feb. 8, at approximately 3 p.m. in the 46th Precinct, which covers some or all of the neighborhoods of Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mt. Hope. They said he was charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm).

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
