Update: Man Arrested following Fordham Road Subway Attempted Kidnapping

Police confirmed on Thursday, March 25, that a man has been arrested for the attempted kidnapping of a child at Fordham Road subway station.

Norwood News previously reported that the New York City Police Department had asked for the public’s assistance identifying the individual seen in the attached video and photo who was wanted for questioning in connection to the attempted kidnapping that occurred in the 46th precinct, Transit District 11.

It was reported to police that on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at approximately 9.17 p.m., a 35-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son entered the Fordham Road Station and proceeded toward the southbound D Line platform.

While walking down the stairs, an unidentified male approached them and grabbed the 8-year-old from his mother’s hand. The woman started screaming for help and immediately pulled her son away from the man, who kept staring at them. The man then left the location, as a crowd began to form. No injuries were reported.

The unidentified man was described as being approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 170 pounds, with a medium complexion, slim build, black hair, and had last been seen wearing a black, hooded jacket, a gray, hooded sweatshirt, a black, Yankees baseball hat, light colored pants and was carrying a black bag.

Surveillance video and a photo, obtained from the incident location, in which the individual was seen, was duly circulated.

Pursuant to the ongoing investigation, Luis Toledo, 36, of 2433 Valentine Avenue in The Bronx was arrested on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 5.25 p.m., in the 49th precinct. Toledo was charged with attempted kidnapping, acting in a manner injurious to a child, and unlawful imprisonment.

An arrest is not proof that a person is guilty of a crime.
