UPDATE Kingsbridge Heights: 27-Year-Old Man in Custody after Fatal Shooting of Jeremy Valencia

Cops said they have made an arrest in the homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in Kingsbridge Heights in May.

 

As reported, NYPD officials said that on Wednesday, May 17, at around 6.30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot in front of 3470 Fort Independence Street. “Upon arrival, officers observed a 27-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, with gunshot wounds to the chest,” an NYPD spokesperson said.

 

“EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson added. Police said there were no initial arrests, and the investigation remained ongoing. The deceased was identified as Jeremy Valencia of Irwin Avenue in Kingsbridge.

 

On Wednesday, July 19, cops said Luis Joyce, 27, of Fort Independence Street in Kingsbridge Heights was arrested on Tuesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. in connection with the shooting. They said he was charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon (a loaded gun). They added that the investigation was ongoing.

 

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
