Police have arrested a 48-year-old man from Harlem on murder charges following the discovery of a human torso inside an apartment at a residential home in the Highbridge section of The Bronx on Tuesday.
Police said that on Tuesday, March 5, at around 8.25 p.m., officers responded to a wellness check at 979 Summit Avenue. “Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified human torso at the location,” a police spokesperson said.
“EMS responded and pronounced the aided deceased on scene. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death,” the spokesperson added.
On Thursday, March 7, pursuant to the ongoing investigation, police said Sheldon Johnson, 48, of Central Harlem was arrested the same day at 10.05 a.m. in the 44th Precinct in The Bronx. They said he has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Johnson is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
The deceased has been identified as Collin Small, 44, of 979 Summit Avenue, Bronx.
