A fire broke out on the 4th floor of a multi-story, residential building in Fordham Manor in the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 16.
FDNY officials said they received a call at 3.57 a.m. at 2700 Marion Avenue, located between East 196 Street and East 195th Street for a report of a fire.
They said on arrival, they discovered the fire on the 4th floor of a 6-story, non-fireproof, multiple dwelling.
They said 12 fire units, comprising 60 firefighters responded to the blaze and the one firefighter suffered minor injuries.
They said the fire was brought under control at 4.43 a.m. and fire marshals are investigating the cause.
When contacted about those likely displaced because of the fire, Frederic Klein, regional communications manager for the Red Cross of Greater New York said, “After the January 16 fire on Marion Avenue in the Bronx, the American Red Cross registered two households (5 individuals total – 4 adults, 1 child, and 4 pets) for emergency assistance, including temporary lodging. Our Greater New York Disaster Action Team also provided clean-up kits to residents.”
Klein added, “Any residents affected by this fire who have not yet connected with the Red Cross and are in need of help with their recovery process can call 877-RED CROSS (877-733-2767).”
According to the Red Cross, so far this year in The Bronx, through Jan. 18, the organization has registered 60 households (comprising a total of 196 people – 149 adults and 47 children) for emergency assistance after they were displaced by various disasters in the borough.
