Police confirm having arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the fatal, daylight shooting of a 62-year-old man in Fordham Manor last December.
As previously reported, the NYPD confirmed a 62-year-old man died following the afternoon incident which took place on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. at Aqueduct Avenue and West Fordham Road, in Fordham Manor.
Upon arrival, police discovered the male victim had been shot in the head. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The victim was later identified as Robert Brown, 62, of Grand Avenue in the University Heights section of the Bronx.
The NYPD spokesperson told Norwood News there were no immediate arrests and the investigation remained ongoing.
Users of the Citizen’s App posted two verified videos of police activity in the area of the shooting, including a cordoned off pathway, guarded by two police officers.
Late on Monday, May 16, police said Ricardo Ferguson, 36, of no fixed address, had been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
Shooting incidents in the Bronx for the week ending Nov. 28, 2021 were up 140 percent compared to the same week in 2020, with 12 shootings recorded during that week compared to 5 during the same week in 2020. Meanwhile, shooting victim numbers for the week ending Nov. 28, 2021 were also up by 160 percent, compared to the same week in 2020, with 13 shooting victims recorded, up from 5 during the same week in 2020.
In terms of year-to-date shootings in the borough for the week ending Nov. 28, 2021, they were also up by 32.2 percent, with 472 shootings recorded during the year up to that point, compared to 357 shootings recorded as of Nov. 28, 2020 for that year. Shooting victim numbers were also up by 29.6 percent as of Nov. 28, 2021, with 561 shooting victims recorded during the year up to that point, compared to 433 as of the same date (Nov. 28) in 2020 for that year.
