The NYPD said on Monday, June 27, that they have arrested a second person in connection with a Fordham Heights fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man, in which the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
On Wednesday, June 7, at approximately 11.29 a.m., police said officers responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot opposite 2323 Walton Avenue, located in the 46th precinct.
Upon arrival, police discovered the 29-year-old man, laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. “EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” police officials said. “There are no arrest[s] and the investigation remains ongoing,” they added.
The identity of the deceased had been pending family notification, according to police. On Wednesday, June 22, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said a 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The deceased was identified as Rafael Jimenez, 29, of Benson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. “The investigation remains ongoing,” police said.
On Monday, June 27, police said a second person had been arrested in connection with the shooting. José Chavez, 21, of Eighth Avenue in Washington Heights, was charged with murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
