A 33-year-old man is dead and a 38-year-old man is critically injured following a double shooting on Tuesday night on the border of Fordham Manor and Fordham Heights.
Police said that on Tuesday, April 23, at around 9.49 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding two people who had been shot in the vicinity of Morris Avenue and East Fordham Road, within the confines of the 46th precinct.
“Upon arrival, in front of 2449 Morris Avenue, officers observed a 33-year-old male with gunshot wounds to his stomach and right armpit, and a 38-year-old male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds throughout the body,” a police spokesperson said.
“EMS responded and transported both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where the 33-year-old male was then pronounced deceased and the 38-year-old male is listed in critical but stable condition,” the spokesperson added.
Police said there are no arrests at this time and the investigation remains ongoing. They said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Police were later seen in the vicinity of nearby East Kingsbridge Road and Grand Concourse also in Fordham Manor at around 3.30 a.m. on the morning of April 24, several hours after the fatal shooting took place on the night of April 23. Norwood News has asked the NYPD if the later police activity at East Kingsbridge Road and Grand Concourse is related to the shooting and will share any updates we receive.
Police later released the identity of the deceased on Wednesday afternoon. He has been identified as Michael Mendez, 34, of Field Place in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx.
