A Bronx NYPD officer who was arrested following groping allegations has had the related charges dropped due to lack of evidence, according to a media report.
An NYPD spokesperson said that on Sunday, Sept.11, at 11 p.m., the off-duty NYPD officer was arrested and charged in the 44th Precinct, which covers the Grand Concourse, Bronx Terminal Market, and Yankee Stadium.
Police said Julio Alcantara-Santiago, 38, assigned to Transit District 11, which covers 161st Street and Yankee Stadium subway station, and who is a police officer since 2013, was arrested on charges of forcible touching and sex abuse.
According to an NYPD database, he has been recognized for “excellent police duty.”
The New York Daily News later reported on Sept. 20 that charges against the police officer had been dropped after video evidence showed that no groping took place. “A spokesman for Bronx DA Darcel Clark said a ‘thorough investigation’ resulted in no charges against the officer, who was arrested at the Hard Rock Café on Sept. 11,” the news outlet reported.
Norwood News has contacted the NYPD press office to request corroboration of this update as well as a comment on the case.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
