They said the person’s condition and description was unknown and added that the fire was brought under control at 6.14 p.m. They said the cause remains under investigation.
Norwood News witnessed one elderly person being transported out of the building on a stretcher while being administered oxygen.
Norwood News reached out to the Red Cross to ask if any residents had been displaced following the fire and at the time, a spokesperson said their representatives were still at the scene assisting people. Zaide Manzur of the Red Cross later said, “After the fire at Creston Avenue, The Bronx, on Wednesday, April 23, the American Red Cross has registered two adults for emergency assistance, including financial assistance. One of them received housing.”

On the same evening, elsewhere just off West Kingsbridge Road in Kingsbridge Heights at around the same time, a shooting took place, as reported.
As reported there were no injuries following a separate fire on Marion Avenue in Bedford Park on Friday, April 18. FDNY officials said there were also no injuries reported after a fire broke out in a residential building at 3154 Grand Concourse in Bedford Park on Saturday morning, April 12. They said the cause is also under investigation.
Meanwhile, as reported, two people were injured in a separate residential fire on Dekalb Avenue in Norwood on March 28.

The FDNY had shared on social media on April 23, the day of the latest Bedford Park fire, that the department had responded to six multiple-alarm fires across the City in the preceding two days which were caused by electrical issues. They said three people had died and multiple people had been injured. “Multiple homes and businesses were destroyed,” they added. They encouraged residents to take precautions to avoid such fires like never overloading electrical outlets or power strips.
They said extension cords were intended for temporary use only and large appliances should be plugged directly into a wall socket. They said to inspect cords and wires regularly for damage and replace them where necessary, if frayed. Finally, they said to always ensure to have a working fire alarm activated.
We asked if any of the six fires caused by electrical issues had been in The Bronx and will share any updates we receive.

The FDNY is also reminding drivers not to block fire hydrants. As reported, two people were killed after a fire engulfed a Buddhist temple on Anthony Avenue in Fordham Heights on Wednesday, Feb. 12, and fire officials said their rescue efforts were hampered by a car parked in front of a fire hydrant across the street from the blaze.
