One male moped driver has been hospitalized following a road accident involving the moped and an SUV in Bedford Park.
A spokesperson from NYPD said that at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, a person driving a two-wheeled vehicle was struck by a black Volkswagen SUV and that the driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
The spokesperson went on to say the moped driver was removed by EMS to St. Barnabas in critical condition.
EMS later confirmed to Norwood News that they were alerted to the incident at 3.09 p.m. regarding a “pedestrian” who had been struck at the location and who had been transported to St. Barnabas Hospital.
Norwood News arrived at the scene of the accident after it took place and saw firemen attending to the injured moped driver while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. As soon as it did, he was taken inside it and was quickly transported to hospital.
According to witnesses, while the moped driver was on the ground, he was seen bleeding from his ear and nose. Another witness feared the worst and said the victim was not moving.
Witnesses said the SUV had been driving up to Bedford Park Boulevard toward the Lehman College area at the time of the accident and that the moped biker had been driving along Jerome Avenue. Nobody knew who had the right of way. One user of the Citizens’ App said the bike had been seen flying by a red light while another person alleged it was the SUV driver’s fault.
According to a witness, when another person tried to take the damaged moped, police stopped him and said, “What do you think you’re doing?” He responded saying he knew victim and wanted to take the bike on his behalf and put it away for him. Two other bikers who were also present quickly left the scene once police approached them.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Everybody’s in the Bronx is too high on something to know who had the right of way… Most of the people at least 50% of the people on mopeds don’t have a license to drive one and the other half don’t have insurance…
