Police have arrested an 87-year-old man following an incident at a care center in Co-op City during which an 83-year-old man died.

On Friday, May 21, at approximately 7.16 p.m., police responded to a call regarding an aided person inside one of the rooms at Pinnacle Multi-Care Center, located at 801 Co-op City Boulevard in Co-op City, in the 45th precinct.

Upon arrival, officers observed an 83-year-old man lying on the floor, inside the location. The man was unconscious and unresponsive, and had suffered trauma to his face. EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

An 87-year-old man was taken into custody with charges pending. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.

The center is listed as closed on the internet. However, a representative who answered our call at the listed number confirmed it was open, and identified it as Pinnacle Multi-Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. The representative confirmed it was previously known as Bay Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was unable to comment on the incident, and suggested we call back the next day, which we did, but we were unable to reach anyone.

According to its website, Pinnacle offers 24-hour nursing care to residents. “Our experienced team includes Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Nurses (LPN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) all of whom are dedicated to providing exceptional care to residents,” an extract from the website reads.

On Saturday, May 22, the NYPD confirmed the deceased had been identified as Lloyd Godfrey of 801 Co-Op City Blvd, in The Bronx.

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation police confirmed that the man arrested, also of 801 Co-Op City Blvd, in The Bronx, was charged with murder on Friday, May 21, at 23.15 p.m. in the 45th precinct. The investigation continues.

The New York Daily News reported on Saturday that a man suffering from dementia had been charged with beating a fellow nursing home resident at the center to death.

A person arrested and accused of a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
