The NYPD announced on Monday, May 23, that a second person, an 18-year-old male, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 11-year-old, Kyhara Tay, in the South Bronx. Police had previously announced that on Friday, May 20, a 15-year-old boy had been arrested in connection with the incident, and that officers were also searching for an additional person.
Police had sought the public’s help identifying the individuals seen in the attached video who were being sought in connection with the fatal shooting which took place on Monday, May 16, in the 41st precinct.
It was reported to police that on Monday, at 4.50 p.m., an unknown male was running along Fox Street towards 165th Street in the Foxhurst section of the South Bronx, while being chased by two people on a scooter.
When the person who was running approached the front of 1015 Fox Street, he attempted to enter the location causing the scooter to drive past him on the sidewalk. The scooter passenger then began to shoot at the male. One round traveled down Fox Street and struck 11-year-old Kyhara in the abdomen. She had been standing in front of 993 Fox Street at the time of the incident. Kyhara was transported to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased.

Facebook user, Katie Lusso, posted a picture of the victim with several broken heart emojis, writing, “RIP. This is Kyhara Tay. She was 11 years old. Last night she was shot and killed in The Bronx.” Lusso continued in part, “My heart breaks for her family and friends. Police say the people in this surveillance video, who were shooting at someone while riding a scooter…are responsible. Recognize them or have any information? Call NYPD Crimestoppers 1-800-577-TIPS.”
On Tuesday, May 17, police announced that a combined reward in the amount of $10,000 was being offered in the context of the incident. Up to $3,500 is payable by CrimeStoppers upon arrest and charges, and $6,500 is payable by the NYPD upon arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the incident.

On Friday, May 20, police said a 15-year-old male had been arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the incident. On the same day, police also asked for the public’s assistance identifying the person seen in the attached photo, further below, who they said was wanted for questioning regarding Kyhara’s murder.
They identified the person as Omar Bojang, 18.
On Monday, May 23, the day of Kyhara’s wake, which was attended by Mayor Eric Adams, the NYPD announced that Bojang, 18, of Honeywell Avenue in the West Farms section of The Bronx, had been arrested in connection with Kyhara’s murder, and has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
As reported, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced on Tuesday, May 17, that a Bronx teen has also been charged with the murder and attempted murder in the fatal, daylight shooting in Mott Haven last month of 16-year-old, Angellyh Yambo, as well as the injuring of two other high school students during the same incident.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
