One firefighter and one civilian were injured in a residential fire on Sunday in the University Heights section of The Bronx, FDNY officials said.

An FDNY spokesperson said the department received a call at 11.33 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, for reports of a fire at 2327 Andrews Avenue North, a 6-story residential building (75 x 125) located between West 183rd Street and West Fordham Road.

They said 12 emergency units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene, with one firefighter incurring minor injuries and one civilian incurring serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Both were transported to NY Presbyterian-Allen Pavilion and St. Barnabas Hospitals respectively. Their conditions or descriptions were unknown. The spokesperson said the fire was brought under control at 12.08 p.m. and the cause remains under investigation.

We asked the Red Cross if any families were displaced and a representative said, “Our responders were on scene but were unable to connect with the residents. Anyone displaced by this fire should call 877-RedCross (option 1) for assistance.”
