A 28-year-old man has died following a knife attack in University Heights, prompting a murder investigation.
On Friday, Sept. 10, at approximately 5.30 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been stabbed near the corner of West 183rd Street and Sedgwick Avenue, in University Heights.
Upon arrival, officers observed a 28-year-old man with stab wounds to the neck and torso. EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. On Friday, Sept. 17, the victim was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
The deceased has been identified as Christopher Martinez, 28, of Sugar Hill in Manhattan.
Year-to-date murders in the Bronx are up by 33.8 percent compared to 2020, with a total of 107, compared to 80 during the same period in 2020.
In the 52nd precinct, they are up by 66.7 percent, year to date, with a total of five murders (excluding this latest one) as of Sept. 12, compared to three during the same period last year.
