The NYPD has arrested a 19-year-old man following the fatal shooting of Johnny Gaston in University Heights on Dec. 15.
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Gibran Guerrero, 19, from Mt. Hope was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. at the 46th Precinct. He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon (a loaded gun).
As reported, the NYPD had been asking for the public’s assistance locating and identifying the people seen in the attached photos who are sought for questioning in connection to the armed robbery and shooting that occurred in front of 1920 Osbourne Place in the University Heights section of The Bronx, which resulted in the death of 32-year-old Gaston.
The fatal victim was found in front of 189 Burnside Avenue, also located in University Heights.
The NYPD launched a murder investigation after the 32-year-old died from gunshot wounds while another person, who was also shot during the incident, was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
An NYPD spokesperson initially reported that officers responded on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 10.02 p.m. to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot in front of 189 Burnside Avenue.
“Upon arrival, police discovered two individuals shot. Victim #1, a 32-year-old male, was shot in the head and removed to St Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” the spokesperson said.
“Victim #2, a 27-year-old male, was shot in the groin and removed to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition,” the spokesperson added. “There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.”
The deceased was later identified as Gaston, 32, from the Foxhurst section in the South Bronx.
The investigation remains ongoing.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
