A 25-year-old man is in stable condition after he was shot in the leg in University Heights, police said.
The 52nd Precinct Community Affairs team initially informed the community about the incident, saying it occurred at 2.55 p.m. on Sunday, April 16.
“A call for a male shot came through 911 for a walk-in at St Barnabas Hospital. When officers arrived, they met with the victim, a 25-year-old male shot once in the leg. The victim stated he had a dispute with a group of males when an unknown perpetrator shot him in the leg. The victim is in stable condition and the 52nd precincts detective squad is currently investigating this incident.”
In response to a follow-up inquiry by Norwood News on the incident, an NYPD spokesperson later said, “On Sunday, April 16, 2023 at approximately 2.55 p.m. an assault is reported to have occurred in the vicinity of West 184 Street and Davidson Avenue within the confines of the 52nd Precinct.”
The spokesperson said officers were informed by the 25-year-old male victim that he had been walking [in the location] when he was approached by a group of unidentified people who allegedly punched him in the face and then shot him in the leg. “The subjects fled the location to parts unknown,” the spokesperson said. “EMS transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”
