Two men are recovering after two separate shootings that occurred within hours of each other in pre-Labor Day incidents reported in the 52nd precinct, in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx.

In the first incident, a police source reported that a 34-year-old man was shot twice “about the body,” at the corner of Briggs Avenue and East 194th Street. According to the source, the unidentified victim was reported wounded at the corner of Briggs Avenue and East 194th Street at 11:24 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The police source added that the victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in “stable” condition. Police reported no arrests or description of a suspect(s) at the time.

A pair of residents on the block said that the shooting happened outside of the Loli Beauty Salon, located at 2645 Briggs Avenue. One man who was sweeping the sidewalk the following morning said, “I was sleeping, but my nephew said he heard six or seven shots at about 11 o’clock, but he didn’t come to the window to see what was going on.”

The second shooting occurred a quarter of a mile away from the first, and was reported at 4:10 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 7 outside 2693 Morris Avenue, between East Kingsbridge Road and East 196th Street. Police said a 31-year-old man was shot in the left thigh and was also transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in “stable” condition.

The source said, “The male was shot while standing at that location,” and added that detectives were looking for a male gunman who was wearing a black sweatshirt, face-mask and who had fled the scene on a scooter.

At 7 a.m. on Monday morning, police still had Morris Avenue blocked off at East Kingsbridge Road where a vehicle was seen with a blown out driver’s side window, and shattered glass littered the street.

Norwood News had previously reported on an Aug. 28 shooting incident in a nearby area outside 2645 Morris Avenue, between East Kingsbridge Road and East 193rd Street, in  the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx, where a 22-year-old woman who was walking to a nearby grocery store, was shot at twice by an unknown assailant for no apparent reason.

The latest NYPD statistics as of Aug. 30, 2020 show that the 52nd precinct reported just three homicides from Jan. 1 through August 30, compared with eight for the same time period in 2019. However, it also recorded 17 shooting victims in that same time period compared with just 12 for the same period in 2019.
