Two people are dead following a crash on the Major Deegan Expressway.

On Friday, May 21, at approximately 00.01 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision on the south bound Major Deegan Expressway between Exit 10 (West 230th Street) and Exit 9 (Fordham Road), in the 52nd precinct.

Upon arrival, officers observed a white 2015 BMW M3 sedan which had collided with the rear of a tractor trailer operated by a 57-year-old man.

EMS responded to the location and pronounced two occupants of the sedan, an unidentified, male driver and an unidentified, front seat, female passenger, deceased at the scene.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the BMW sedan had been traveling southbound on the expressway at the incident location when it struck the rear of the tractor trailer, and became lodged within the rear portion of the truck. The truck operator had remained at the scene and was not injured.

There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
