Straphangers entering or exiting the Norwood-205th Subway Station, serving the D train will notice that two of the four entrances to the station are now covered by a construction shed as repairs to the entrance stairways are underway. The project is expected to be completed by July, according to NYC Department of Transportation.
Construction workers were observed on Friday, May 10, erecting a shed at the subway station entrance on Perry Avenue by East 205th Street, and those wishing to enter or exit the station on Bainbridge Avenue at the west corner of East 206th Street were also met with a construction barrier on Sunday, May 12.
The construction barrier also covers the entrance to the popular Bainbridge Deli & Grill at 3161 Bainbridge Avenue on the corner with East 206th Street. According to Google, the store is temporarily closed.
Meanwhile, a sign posted at the shuttered subway entrance read, “On or about Wednesday, May 1, through July 2024, this entrance will be closed for stair repair and improvement. Enter via the nearby stairway across Bainbridge Avenue and 206th Street. Please use crosswalk.”
Meanwhile, according to other signs and work permits issued by DOT, the contractor hired to carry out the work is CH. CO., Inc., of Astoria, Queens. Norwood News contacted DOT and asked when the RFP was issued for this project. We will share any updates we receive.
