Three More Charged in Fordham Heights Fatal Shooting of Edward Campbell

The NYPD announced on Wednesday, Dec. 29, that they have made additional arrests in the context of the murder investigation of Edward Campbell, 40, of Tiebout Avenue in Fordham Heights, who was shot in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx on Sunday, June 6.

 

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, three additional individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the killing. On June 14, Brian Gibbs, 23, of New Rochelle, NY was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

On June 29, Jonathan Gomez, 18, of Yonkers, NY was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon. On Dec. 28, Eddy Taveras, 32, of Yonkers, NY was arrested and charged with murder, robbery, burglary, conspiracy, and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

As previously reported, on June 9,  Marlon Gardner, 23, of New Rochelle, had been arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter, robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a loaded firearm in connection with the case, and on June 14, police confirmed that Fatimah Adegoke, 20, of Yonkers had also been arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

 

On Sunday, June 6, the day of the killing, at around 2.14 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot inside a building on Tiebout Avenue, located in the Bronx’s 46th precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 40-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the torso.

 

EMS responded and transported the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He was later identified as Edward Campbell, 40, of Tiebout Avenue in the Bronx.

 

As reported, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark had organized an anti gun violence rally in nearby Fordham Manor on Friday, June 4. She was joined by cure violence groups like BRAG, community groups like VIP community services, clergy and the NYPD at the event which was held to mark Gun Violence Awareness Month when May saw a 271 percent increase in shooting victims in the Bronx, compared to the same period last year.

Year-to-date shootings in the Bronx as of Dec. 26, amounted to 503, compared to 383 in 2020, according to NYPD data, while year-to-date shooting victims in the Bronx as of the same date amounted to 596, compared to 461 in 2020.

 

A person arrested and accused of a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
