The Riverdale Y Sunday Market, which organizers say has emerged as one of the most popular destinations for fresh food and community in the Northwest Bronx, has announced that it will be open every Sunday through the winter.
Since Sunday, Jan. 9, the market, which organizers say champions local, small-scale farmers, food producers, craftspeople, and artists, has been open every Sunday and will remain open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday throughout the year, including during the winter weeks. The Market is located at 4545 Independence Avenue in the Riverdale Temple parking lot (near 246th Street).
“It’s amazing how popular the market has gotten,” said Shira Silverman, the market manager.
“Families have found it a great place for their kids and shoppers of every age are thrilled with the array of healthy food and delicacies. Rather than sit inside every winter weekend, the market is now a great Sunday destination and you can even get to listen to some great local music!”
In addition to services like food scrap drop off and textile recycling, the winter vendors will include Bronx Bound Books , The Bronx Brewery, The Cardamom Man, The Cheese Guy , The Copper Faucet Soap Company, Don Carvajal Café, Do Re Me Farms, EcoBronx LLC, General Cochran Farm, Noble Pies, Orchards of Concklin, Orwashers Bread, and Sasha’s Seafood.
The market will continue to add more vendors throughout the winter months, according to Silverman.
“It is exciting that the Riverdale Y Sunday Market will be open year-round,” said District 11 City Councilman Eric Dinowitz. “This means our community and our families will continue to have something to look forward to each Sunday. Whether people go for the fresh food, unique programming, or just to meet up with neighbors, this is great news for the community!”
