Torahs Stolen in Norwood
Three Torahs, worth $25,000 a piece were stolen from the Young Israel Synagogue of Mosholu Parkway, a temple with dwindling membership on East 208th Street in Norwood, according to police. The NY Post reportedthat other valuables, including “12 similar scrolls, several pieces of silver with religious significance and donations boxes full of cash,” were left untouched in a cabinet much like the one pictured here.

Murder at a Baby Shower
Two young men, ages 20 and 22, were shot during a baby shower in Concourse Village on Saturday night, police said. Both were taken to Lincoln Hospital. The younger man, Jamie Joseph, a Brooklyn resident, died from his wound at the hospital, while the other victim was listed in stable condition on Sunday morning. On Monday, police announced that Dominique Love, a 19-year-old Williamsbridge resident, had been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder among other charges.

We’ve got a couple of missing Bronxites:

Giovanni Rivera, 14, was last seen on Friday, Feb. 8, at his home at 253 East 181 Street in the 46 Precinct. He is 5-foot-2, 105 pounds and was last seen wearing a school uniform.
Scott Groves, 42 of 2976 Marion Ave. (in the 52nd Precinct) was last seen inside of North Shore Hospital in Staten Island on Friday, Feb. 8.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
