The Bronx Crime Report: Postal Worker Attacked, Plus Latest Stats, Missing Alerts and More

The Bronx Crime report is posted on Breaking Bronx on Mondays.

The Bronx Crime Report is a regular feature on the Norwood News’ Breaking Bronx blog that is published weekly (usually on Mondays). It includes the latest crime updates, stories and features from throughout the Bronx, plus crime statistics for the 52nd Precinct — Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham-Bedford, and parts of Fordham, University Heights and Kingsbridge Heights — as well as links to stats for other Bronx precincts.

The Stories

On Monday afternoon, a 70-year-old Bronx postal worker was attacked at the Twin Park Public Houses on Wesbster Avenue, NY1 reports.

The family of Jason Echeverria, a Riker’s Iland inmate whose death after eating a toxic bar of soap was deemed a homicide because guards refused to give him medical attention, wants to know why Bronx DA Robert Johnson won’t prosecute the case, the Daily News reports. Despite some video evidence showing that guards recognized Echeverria’s condition, a spokesman for the DA’s office said they didn’t have enough evidence to move forward with the case.

The mother of a Bronx man who was killed during a police involved chase while riding on a dirt bike is suing the NYPD for $50 million, News 12 reports (subscription only). New video indicates that the cops may have crashed into the dirt bike on purpose, the Daily News reports. “The police officer barrels into them like a scud missile,” attorney Peter Ronai told the DN. “They were dead ducks. They had no chance. Their only crime was riding a dirt bike. They paid with their lives.”

Police arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in Parkchester, CBS reports.
