Bronx Science Athletes Charged for Hazing
Three teenage boys on the Bronx High School of Science track team were indicted on charges of hazing and inappropriately touching a another male member of the team on several occasions over the course of the past few months. The indictment alleges that one of the students repeatedly touched the accusers genitals and other areas covered by a swimsuit while the other two defendants held him down, NY1 reports. The DOE is investigating the incident and the school has suspended all track activities while it conducts its own investigation, the Daily News reports. Here’s more from CBS News, including this quote from the letter Principal Valerie Reidy wrote to students:

“All track team events have been suspended until the investigation is completed. Understand that the decision was not an easy decision to make, and was not meant to be punitive to any of our students. We understand that not all members of the team were involved in the hazing; however, at this time, we do not know the magnitude or severity of the incident(s) and who specifically is involved.”

Ex-ADA Acquitted
A former Bronx Assistant DA was acquitted of driving while impaired charges. Rafael Urena’s lawyer successfully argued that former DA’s blood-alcohol level, which was .081 (the legal limit is .080), was within the margin of error for the device used. Urena’s said he’s ready to get back to work if the Robert Johnson will have him back, the NY Post reports.

Case Backlog Help Backfires?
Looks like the Office of Court Administration’s plan to deal with huge backlog in Bronx criminal court cases has kind of backfired. According to court records and a report by the NY Post, three Bronx judges were doing nothing last week, while three out-of-town judges presided over cases in their stead. The OCA brought in 10 outside judges to help with the backlog, but there wasn’t enough support staff to keep all of them and the in-house judges busy.

The Great Bronx Beer Bust
Over the course of several months, a Bronx security guard helped his friends steal $100,000 worth of beer by pointing the camera away from certain areas of a Budweiser distribution center in Hunts Point, reports DNAinfo.

On Saturday morning, a 61-year-old Bronx woman was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident while crossing the Grand Concourse in Fordham Heights, the Post reports.

The Bronx cop who police say accidentally shot and killed a bodega worker in Morrisania will not face criminal charges, but the family intends to sue the officer and the police department, NY1 reports.
