Norwood Pride Festival Makes its Debut in Williamsbridge Oval
The inaugural “Norwood Pride” festival took place on Sunday, June 23, in the Williamsbridge Oval park in Norwood. Its launch was rather ceremonious in that not only did local elected officials, State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), and City Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11), show up to celebrate with the local community, but so too did Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.

Petition Launched on Change.Org to Stop the Sale of Van Cortlandt Jewish Center
An online petition was launched by a group called “Van Cortlandt” on June 9 on www.change.org to stop the proposed sale to a developer, as reported, of the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC), located in the Van Cortlandt Village section of The Bronx. Though petitioners were asked to sign the petition by June 21, it appears to still be available.
Bronx BP Hosts Annual Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony at Borough Hall, Honors Various Residents
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson hosted the annual Juneteenth flag-raising celebration outside Borough Hall located at 851 Grand Concourse on Tuesday, June 18. Signed into law on May 17, 2021, by U.S. President Joe Biden, Juneteenth is celebrating its 3rd year as an official U.S. holiday commemorating the end of slavery in Texas and the United States.
Prosecutors Hold Gun Violence Summit at Fordham University
With June marking Gun Violence Awareness Month, Prosecutors Against Gun Violence (PAGV), in partnership with the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA), held their annual conference for the first time in The Bronx, at Fordham University, in the jurisdiction and under the watchful eye of Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, co-chair of PAGV, alongside City Attorney for Columbus, Ohio Zach Klein. This year’s summit was centered on community restoration and gun violence prevention. UPDATE Unity Democrats Allege “Dinowitz Democratic Team” Ran Political Campaign Out of Local Nonprofit
Local political organization, The Unity Democratic Club, is calling out the “Dinowitz Democratic Team,” a slate of candidates the club alleges were recruited and funded by local Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), for allegedly violating a long-standing congressional ban on [political] campaign activity by nonprofits, a law administered by the IRS. Early voting begins on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The borough president outlined major accomplishments that include an investment of over $35 million in education and over $8.9 million in capital allocations to public and private health facilities.
