Off-Duty NYPD School Crossing Guard Arrested for Assault within the 52nd Precinct Catchment Area

An off-duty, female, New York City employee was arrested in the 52nd Precinct, police said.   According to an NYPD spokesperson, on Friday, Jan. 13, at 8.19 p.m., Janet Eury, 34, an NYPD school crossing guard, was arrested and charged with assault and harassment.   The 52nd Precinct covers the neighborhoods of Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bronx Park, and University Heights.   A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.   Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS

UPDATE Bronx CB7 Looks Forward to Subway Upgrades & More in 2023  

Bronx Community Board 7 (CB7) held their final board meeting of 2022 on Dec. 13, following a successful annual tree-lighting event in Bedford Park on Dec. 8. The meeting was attended by around two dozen people, updates were shared by the different CB7 committee chairs and concerns of some community members were also heard.   The meeting was the first to be presided over by recently elected Bronx CB7 chair, Yajaira Arias, following her election to the position on Nov. 15. As reported, Arias, the incumbent CB7 secretary, succeeds Emmanuel Martinez, who stepped down as chair in the summer of 2022.

University Heights: 30-Year-Old Man Shot following Road Collision

An NYPD spokesperson said on Jan. 11 that a man who had been reported missing from the University Heights section of The Bronx has been found and is safe.   As reported, prior to being located, police had said on Dec. 6 that Luis Berrios, 68, of West 184th Street had last been seen on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at around 11.28 a.m., leaving his home. UPDATE Fordham Heights: Man, 30, Shot in Chest on Valentine Avenue

  A 30-year-old man was shot in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx on Friday afternoon, Dec. 16, police said.   A police spokesperson told Norwood News the incident took place at about 2.30 p.m. on Friday, at 2314 Valentine Avenue. “We have a male shot in the chest and he was taken to St. Barnabas (Hospital),” the police spokesperson said. “The medical staff have determined that the victim had sustained a gunshot wound.
